God’s Promises Don’t Have a Shelf Life!

For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.]

Romans 11:29 AMPC

A few years ago, I felt led to believe God for a significant sum of money that I believed would be used for a ministry project at the time. I even told a few others about it and they joined in the excitement with me as we waited for the money to come in. However, in that season, it never came. I started out with fervor and excitement, but ended in discouragement and let down. I had really felt that I had heard from the Holy Spirit on this exact dollar amount, so I was confused and felt I had let those down around me whom I had told about the dream.

Several years went by and I applied for a scholarship for my education–the thing I am currently working on according to God’s Word over my life in this season. I admit I was a little surprised when I received word that I had been awarded a scholarship for exactly the amount (to the very dollar!) that I had believed God for so many years ago for the “ministry project.” Had I been a bit more perceptive back then, I believe I would have taken more time to connect with the Lord over that dollar amount and its purpose instead of rushing off to my own conclusions. But thank God, He is so good that in spite of my dullness, He is still faithful!

I want to encourage you today, from the bottom of my heart, that God has a good plan for you, and that if you will take the time to connect with Him, He surely will show you things to come (John 16:13).

What are you believing God for right now? What is He breathing on in your life? There’s got to be something that is well beyond your natural reach that He is breathing on–that’s one way you know it is God! He will never ask you to do something you can do on your own; how else would He get any glory?

Stay strong, friend! Stay in the Word of God. Make sure the Word of God covers what you are asking for. And once you are absolutely convinced your request is in God’s Word, release your faith and go for it. God’s promises don’t have a shelf life.
