Fundamentals of Faith I: Believe and Speak in Faith

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Mark 11:23

If this is your first visit to the Unstoppable blog, welcome! We have been exploring what God says about faith that receives – not just “feel good” or “flashy” faith, but true, powerful faith that produces real results. Faith works and the power of God is meant to be released on the earth today. Let’s take a look at how it works!

Jesus cursed the fig tree and it dried up from the roots. How can someone just speak to a tree and see such dramatic results? Jesus used this stunning display of power as an object lesson on how to utilize and walk continually in the same kind of faith that God uses (Mark 11:22-26 gives us a concrete example of God-faith – see Faith That Receives II for more on this). In this passage from Mark’s gospel we see some of the laws of faith in action. These laws will work for anyone who cooperates with them.

Did you catch that? Anyone who properly puts the principles of faith into motion will always get supernatural results.

Gravity is still…well, gravity.

The Wright Brothers are credited with pioneering the world’s first powered flight. How did they do it? In brief, they learned how to work and cooperate with the laws of physics. They did not succeed by designing an anti-gravity machine, no, they designed aircraft that cooperated with gravity. Gravity isn’t going anywhere, so we design everything with it in mind.

In the same way, God’s laws of faith (as outlined in the Bible) are always there. They always work. He is consistent and true to His Word. His laws don’t work for some and not for others. Like gravity, His laws work for everyone, every time. The ones who learn how to cooperate with those laws are the ones who succeed and overcome in life!

My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

Psalm 89:34

Once God sets something into motion through His Word, He doesn’t alter it. Notice one such law that God set in motion a long time ago – just after Noah had sacrificed a burnt offering to God in thanksgiving for preserving his family through the great Flood.

21 And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Genesis 8:21-22

There are several promises in this passage, but I want you to especially note verse 22: while the earth remaineth. As long as the earth is under our feet, the following law will be in effect:

Seedtime and harvest.

Note that this law has both spiritual and natural implications. Galatians 6:7-9 extends the idea of seedtime and harvest to the spiritual, emotional, and physical realms.

It is difficult to overstate how important it is that we understand this: God has set certain laws into motion that, like gravity, when understood, can be (and ought to be) tapped into for our benefit. This is not selfishness; this is opening up and enjoying every gift that our Heavenly Father has personally wrapped for us. The gift of the power of God is available to you and me today.

Fundamental Number One: Believe With Your Heart and Say it With Your Mouth

Although there have been excesses in the Body of Christ along these lines, the truth of God’s Word is unchanging. I am aware that many people have been burned by the ‘name it and claim it’ fad and want nothing to do with ‘prosperity’ and ‘faith teachers’. If you are to throw out prosperity and faith, however, you must rip out a sizable chunk of your Bible! God’s desire is for mankind to experience the fullness of His love, favor, and blessing – not just in the age to come, but right here, right now.

Jesus defined ‘eternal life’ for us in John 17:3:

And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent.

John 17:3, AMPC

Eternal life begins the moment you enter into personal relationship with Jesus Christ! That means all the promises of God are Yes and Amen in this life. Using God-faith is one way we can cooperate with the laws of God and live this beautiful, anointed life! Are you excited yet?

So here is Faith Fundamental One: Believe it with your heart and say it with your mouth.

Remember, we are studying what God’s Word has to say about faith that receives or how to operate in the God-faith that produces results.

In case you’ve never done this before, read Mark 11:23 again and count the number of times Jesus uses the words say and believe. Just tally them up.

Did you do it?

Why do you think God highlighted the idea of saying with your mouth more than believing in your heart? Isn’t believing in our hearts important?

Of course it is! But Jesus is giving us golden insight into the ways and purposes of God.

Words are Power-Vehicles

No, not Priuses.

Words are the vehicles that contain the power of God. Notice Mark 11:24:

He shall have whatsoever he saith.

Whenever I study the book of Proverbs, I am always struck by how many times the Holy Spirit emphasizes the power of words. The tongue this, the mouth that. Life here, death there. The power of words is intricately woven into the golden tapestry of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding throughout the Word of God.

How did God create light? The heavens? The stars, superclusters, and galaxies? The oceans and dry land and all the living creatures? God used the highest form of power in the universe: His Words.

Ah, but not man. He created mankind in His image with His own hands. What special thing did God save just for man? He breathed His Spirit into man and gave him…

The power to speak words.

No, the parrot cannot speak his own words, or dream or create. If he could, he would be flying and we would all be in cages. God deposited into mankind alone the ability to create and design with the same power He Himself used in the beginning.

Read books from Olympic gold medalists, successful entrepreneurs, championship-winning coaches, and other overcomers and you will notice a common thread: “Continually speak out your goals and visualize yourself winning.” Say it with your mouth and believe it in your heart. The laws of faith work for “whosoever”.

Paint Your Future with the Creative Power of Words

This profound truth is packaged in such a simple container that many, many people miss it! I know you won’t, because you are a student of the Word. When we prioritize the Word and the voice of the Holy Spirit, we will never be led astray. He is our Comforter, our Guide, and our Teacher. Let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart right now! Take a moment right now to engage with what the Lord is doing. If you have time, write down what He says to you in your journal. Writing down our experiences with the Holy Spirit is extremely powerful, and it helps us process what God is doing in our lives.

Holy Spirit, what are you saying to me right now about faith-filled words?

I trust Your Word, Father, and I ask to be filled with the knowledge of your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Teach me about the power of words. Show me where my words have been releasing death and not life. Come in and infuse those areas with your power. Put a new song in my mouth!

I confess right now that I speak Godly, life-giving words. My mouth is a spring of grace, life, and truth.

My finances are well. My body is well. According to the Word of God, my mind is well. I am healed, whole, and protected by the Blood of the Lamb!

I thank you, Lord, for your goodness and mercy!

I confess these things in the precious Name of Jesus!
