Charlie Kirk and Choosing a Side

In this post, I want to touch on a very important and highly controversial topic: the recent assassination and martyrdom of Charlie Kirk. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you are familiar with the general story: Charlie Kirk, a right-wing, outspoken activist, was assassinated on September 10, 2025 during a rally at Utah Valley University campus. At least that is what the news sources will tell you. But is there more going on here than what meets the eye? Is there something bigger that Charlie’s martyrdom exposes, both in the hearts of Christians and non-Christians alike? Something of eternal consequence?

Something Charlie unflinchingly stood for was human dignity and the right to express and debate one’s personal opinions freely and respectfully with others who disagree. I am aware that there are people reading this that may not agree with my personal convictions and opinions, but I want to invite you–no matter what you believe–to engage with what I am going to share today. I believe the truths I am about to share with you are life-changing, powerful, and extremely relevant to the current times we are living in.

Jesus explains a perplexing spiritual truth in Matthew 13:24-30 that, I believe, has direct application to our current day and age.

24 Another parable He set forth before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25 But while he was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed also darnel (weeds resembling wheat) among the wheat, and went on his way.
26 So when the plants sprouted and formed grain, the darnel (weeds) appeared also.
27 And the servants of the owner came to him and said, Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then how does it have darnel shoots in it?
28 He replied to them, An enemy has done this. The servants said to him, Then do you want us to go and weed them out?
29 But he said, No, lest in gathering the wild wheat (weeds resembling wheat), you root up the [true] wheat along with it.
30 Let them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will say to the reapers, Gather the darnel first and bind it in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my granary.

Jesus explains this riddle in Matthew 13:36-43:

36 Then He left the throngs and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him saying, Explain to us the parable of the darnel in the field.
37 He answered, He Who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
38 The field is the world, and the good seed means the children of the kingdom; the darnel is the children of the evil one,
39 And the enemy who sowed it is the devil. The harvest is the close and consummation of the age, and the reapers are angels.
40 Just as the darnel (weeds resembling wheat) is gathered and burned with fire, so it will be at the close of the age.
41 The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all causes of offense [persons by whom others are drawn into error or sin] and all who do iniquity and act wickedly,
42 And will cast them into the furnace of fire; there will be weeping and wailing and grinding of teeth.
43 Then will the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God) shine forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let him who has ears [to hear] be listening, and let him consider and perceive and understand by hearing.

You may have noticed a couple things:

  1. Jesus is the One sowing the good seed
  2. The field is the world
  3. The good seeds are the children of God
  4. The bad seeds are the children of Satan
  5. The harvest is the “close and consummation of the age”

There is, of course, a veritable wealth of material we could study here, but I want to draw your attention to what I believe is the MAIN POINT of this parable: there is a clear, strong, and visible line between good and evil, and there is no third option; there is no option to ride the fence. You and I must choose a side.

Friend, let me ask you today: which side are you on? No, I am not talking about Republican versus Democrat. I am not talking Trump or Anti-Trump. I am not even asking you if you are pro-life or pro-choice. These topics, and others, are all just smoke screens that hide the truth that is deep within your own heart. I am asking you this: are you on the side of Jesus or are you against Him? To be specific, are you going to stand for what Jesus stood for; are you going to unflinchingly stand on the truth of God’s Word and all the persecution that comes with taking a hard line on moral issues, or are you going to cave and crack under pressure?

Whether you agree with Charlie Kirk or not, you have to admit, he stood by his convictions without hesitation, without apology, and without fear of what others would do or say to him. I want to be known as a man who stood by his convictions. I want to be known as someone who did not back down under pressure, no matter how much opposition comes against me.

The truth is, Charlie Kirk was killed for standing for Christian values as outlined in the Word of God. If you listen to him, you will find that he centered nearly every debate topic on how the topic relates to God’s design for His creation, namely, His children. And like the first recorded Christian martyr, Stephen, Charlie’s death is, I believe, the starting point for a modern movement to Jesus, along with a renewed wave of spiritual opposition leveled against those who dare to stand on and believe God’s eternal Word.

Notice in Matthew 13:36-43 how Jesus shows that there are two sides ONLY to the battle: there is the Son of God, and there is an enemy we call Satan. I want you to see that there is no third side: no “fence” to ride. You don’t get to call yourself a Christian and deny the teachings of Jesus, the inerrancy of the Bible, and the teachings on morality, family, life, and spiritual truths that God clearly outlines. You don’t get to work your way up to a right relationship with God outside of a personal and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ.

I believe Charlie is a modern-day Christian martyr, and this event has shaken the very core of our current day and age. His ultimate sacrifice brings to the forefront of all our minds: which side will we choose? Will we stand firmly on the bedrock-solid foundation of the Word of God, or will we build our lives, thoughts, families, businesses, and relationships on the shifting sand of emotions, political ideologies, and deception in these last days?

I encourage you to take a deep and serious look at your own life and examine your own heart before the Creator of Heaven and earth. Which side are you on? Do you believe and receive Jesus as Lord over all your life? If so, are you encouraged to be more bold in the face of deception and persecuation, as Charlie was?

Or are you trying to ride a non-existent fence? You and I need to come to grips with the fact that Jesus claimed no other Saviors; no other way to God but through Him ONLY.

An eternal truth is found in John 14:6:

Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.

There will be a great reveal soon, namely at the end of this age, where the children of God and the children of the evil one will be publicly displayed for all to see. You will not find a single person who falls into any category other than these two. I know that sounds “intolerant,” but I love you enough to tell you the truth, even if it is hard to swallow. If you are a Christian already and are walking with Jesus, that’s awesome! I pray you are emboldened to walk in a stronger faith than ever before, because things are about to get a lot more messy.

Are you a person who cannot say with absolute certainty, “I have accepted Jesus’ payment for my sin, and I know I am a child of God”? Friend, why not? What are you hung up on? What do you believe about Jesus? What you believe about the hot topics of the day–the very things Charlie was not afraid to debate with those who opposed him–ultimately reveals the deepest beliefs of your heart concerning your Creator God. This isn’t about the right versus the left; healthcare plan versus healthcare plan–no, this is ultimately about the battle between Satan and Jesus.

Maybe that sounds abstract to you, but I want you to seriously think about your own perception of the spiritual realm. How aware are you of the fact we are in the middle of a spiritual war? Paul said, in Ephesians 6:12-13,

For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].

Friend, I care enough about you to tell you the truth. Standing on the truths of the Bible will continue to become more and more unpopular as this present age wraps up. This is simply due to the fact that Satan knows his time is coming to an end, and he is trying to pull as many people away from God as possible. Your Creator longs for deep, intimate, and personal relationship with YOU. God has a plan for your life, and a good one at that! He desires to spend time with you; to show you His infinite beauty; to reveal His glorious creation to you in ways you and I could never fathom. Jesus is the way to God, and we are being confronted with the choice–right here, right now–which side are you on?

You are going to fall into one of two categories: you might as well make a choice today which camp you will fall into! I want to be found, at the end of the age, to be a faithful follower of Jesus, walking in His truth and power, sharing His infinite love and passion for humankind with all my heart, all the way to my dying breath. I am praying that Charlie’s death would deeply impress upon your heart the reality of the war that we are in–no, not against people–but against spiritual forces of wickedness that seek to abolish the truth that Jesus IS LORD.

I encourage you to make the following confessions of faith with me today, depending on where you currently stand:

  1. If you are a born-again believer in Jesus:

I confess that I am bold in the faith and that I will stand firmly on the rock-solid foundation of the Bible in these last days. I confess right now that JESUS IS LORD; there is no other. I will not be swayed by politics, opinions, or information that runs contrary to the eternal Word of God, no matter how isolating my position becomes in the culture around me. I will resolutely stand on the Bible as God’s Holy Word, and I will not back down in the face of the fiercest opposition. I take the Bible seriously, and I will spend time in the Word daily to grow in all aspects of my faith. I ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit daily so I can walk in the power, love, and clarity of mind I need to so I can be a powerful, love-saturated witness of the goodness of Jesus to a lost and broken world. I am not moved by the way others deliver their message to me, but I am moved with compassion toward every individual that God puts me in contact with. I will go to my grave without stepping away from the Word of God and His promises; I will fulfill my God-given calling, and I will declare God’s truths until my dying breath.

2. You cannot say with certainty that you have accepted Jesus into your life:

I confess that I need a Savior. I cannot work my way up to righteousness, no matter how many acts of goodwill I have performed or how spiritually-attuned I have become. I realize that I am lost without Jesus, and I accept His payment for my sin right here and now. I believe He died on the cross for my sin, once and for all, and I confess with my mouth right now that JESUS IS LORD of my life. I don’t exactly know how I am going to live as a Christian, but I choose right now to trust my Creator that He knows what is best. I will start reading the Bible and putting its truths into practice in my life without hesitation. Thank you, Lord, for saving me!

I pray this blog has encouraged you to take a firm stance of faith. That you will either stand firm in your faith in Jesus, or you will do the work that is necessary to develop a strong faith in the only Lord and Savior humanity has.

With all my love, prayers, and thanksgiving for you,
